Come learn, ask questions, connect with other families, and gain practical tools to support your baby’s feeding and development journey!
This parent education and support series explores infant feeding, oral function, movement, growth, and development—going beyond individual symptoms to understand the whole child. Together, a Pediatric Physical Therapist and a Maternal & Child Health–Human Lactation Professional look at how feeding, body alignment, motor development, oral function, and regulation all work together to support your baby’s growth.

Many families are told “feeding should be natural”—but for so many, it isn’t. This session unpacks why feeding can feel hard, what’s normal, what’s not, and how the whole body plays a role. We’ll cover:
✓ What biologically normal infant feeding actually looks like
✓ How body tension, alignment, and motor patterns affect feeding
✓ Common feeding challenges and what might be driving them
✓ How to tell if your baby is transferring milk effectively
✓ When to seek additional support—and from whom
You’ve heard the terms — tongue tie, lip tie, high palate, tension — but what do they actually mean, and how do you know what’s really going on? This session brings both a PT and lactation perspective to one of the most confusing topics in infant feeding. We’ll cover:
✓ What tongue tie and oral restrictions actually are (and aren’t)
✓ How body tension, neck tightness, and postural asymmetry can drive or worsen feeding difficulties — even when the mouth looks “fine”
✓ The difference between structural, functional, and movement-based contributors to feeding challenges
✓ What a feeding and movement observation can reveal that a quick latch check might miss
✓ How PT and lactation work together to support babies before, during, and after any procedure
✓ When a referral makes sense — and to whom
“Is my baby getting enough?” is one of the most common — and most anxiety-producing — questions in early parenthood. This session brings two disciplines together to give you the full picture. We’ll cover:
✓ How milk supply works and what actually drives it
✓ How a baby’s body — jaw tension, neck mobility, core stability, affects how much milk they can effectively take in
✓ Signs of efficient milk transfer vs. signs that the body might be working too hard to feed
✓ Understanding weight gain, growth curves, and what the numbers really mean
✓ Paced bottle feeding, supplementing, and protecting supply
✓ What PT and lactation each look for during a feeding observation — and both matter
